Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has called on Mbeere North residents to shun divisive politics and focus on development as they head into next week’s by-election.

Campaigning for UDA candidate Leonard Wamuthende in Kanyuambora on Saturday, Kindiki said voters were increasingly interested in leaders who can deliver real change and improve livelihoods—not those trading insults.

“The electorate is capable of distinguishing leaders who genuinely care about their welfare,” he said, noting that humility and service to the people remain the true markers of good leadership.

Kindiki said the ruling party would continue prioritising development in the constituency, highlighting several projects expected to benefit residents under Wamuthende’s leadership. These include the Sh250 million Kanyuambora Irrigation Project, the construction of the Kanyuambora Modern Market, and the Kanyuambora–Kamumu–Siakago Road.

The modern market is among 12 development projects currently being implemented across Embu County under the Kenya Kwanza administration.

Kindiki also urged residents to maintain peace and unity throughout the campaign period, warning against political actors attempting to incite divisions.

“We must remember that after the elections, we will still live together as one community. Campaigns should not sow enmity among the people of Mbeere North,” he said.

The Mbeere North by-election will take place on Thursday, November 27.
The seat fell vacant after former MP Geoffrey Ruku was appointed Public Service Cabinet Secretary.
