Juventus have appointed former Italy head coach Luciano Spalletti as their new manager until the end of the season.

The 66-year-old replaces Igor Tudor, who was dismissed following Juventus’ defeat to Lazio on Sunday.

Tudor had taken over in March as Thiago Motta’s successor but departed after a seven-match winless streak and just seven months in charge.

Spalletti, who guided Napoli to the 2022–23 Serie A title, went on to manage the Italian national team after their failure to qualify for the 2022 World Cup under Roberto Mancini.

He secured Italy’s place at Euro 2024, where they were eliminated in the round of 16 by Switzerland.

However, Spalletti was dismissed by the Italian FA in June following a World Cup qualifying defeat to Norway, which left the Azzurri in danger of missing a third consecutive World Cup.

A veteran of Italian football, Spalletti has also coached Inter Milan, Roma, and Udinese, and won two Russian Premier League titles with Zenit St Petersburg.

In the meantime, Massimo Brambilla oversaw Juventus’ 3–1 victory over Udinese on Wednesday, lifting them to seventh place in Serie A, six points adrift of leaders Napoli after nine matches.

In Europe, Juventus sit 25th in the Champions League phase, with one loss and two draws from their opening three games.
