The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has announced plans to hold a series of memorial ceremonies across the country in honor of its late party leader and former Prime Minister, Raila Amolo Odinga, celebrating his lifelong dedication to democracy, justice, and national unity.

Speaking during a press briefing, ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna said the first memorial will take place in Magarini, Kilifi County, on November 2 and 3, followed by others in Homa Bay and Migori Counties on November 5 and 6, respectively.

“In line with the wishes and demands of millions of Kenyans whose lives he touched, the party will hold memorials in various parts of the country to enable his admirers to mourn and celebrate his legacy,” said Sifuna.

He added that the ceremonies will allow Kenyans from different regions to pay tribute to Odinga’s remarkable contribution as a freedom fighter, reformist, and champion of social justice, whose political career spanned over four decades.

Odinga, who passed away on October 15 in Kochi, India, has been hailed as one of Kenya’s most consequential political figures, having played a central role in shaping the country’s democratic journey.

Sifuna further revealed that the memorial events will culminate in the ODM 20th Anniversary Celebrations set to take place in Mombasa next month, noting that preparations are already in top gear.

He reaffirmed the party’s commitment to upholding Odinga’s ideals of unity, good governance, and expanded democratic space, saying ODM will remain focused on strengthening internal cohesion as it transitions into a new leadership era ahead of the 2027 General Election.

“The best way to honor Raila Odinga is to continue his work—fighting for justice, defending democracy, and building a united Kenya,” Sifuna stated.
