Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has reaffirmed that devolution stands as the crown jewel of Kenya’s 2010 Constitution, noting that while major progress has been made in the past fifteen years, significant challenges still hinder its full realization.

Speaking in Karen, Nairobi County, during a Pre-Summit meeting ahead of the upcoming 12th National and County Governments Coordination Summit, Kindiki said the government remains committed to strengthening intergovernmental relations to enhance service delivery across the country.

The meeting brought together the Chairperson of the Council of Governors, representatives from the National Government, Constitutional Commissions, Independent Offices, and the Intergovernmental Technical Relations Committee (IGTRC) to deliberate on key issues affecting devolution.

Kindiki emphasized that the forthcoming Summit will focus on consolidating gains made under the devolved system while addressing challenges such as funding gaps, duplication of roles, and weak coordination between the two levels of government.

He lauded the collaboration between the national and county governments, saying it remains crucial to achieving equitable development and ensuring that all Kenyans benefit from the spirit of devolution.
