Expectant women in Kitengela have all the reasons to smile now that Kitengela Sub-County Hospital has opened a new, well-equipped theatre a facility that promises safer and faster deliveries for mothers in Kajiado County.
The newly opened theatre launched under the National Equipment Support Programme (NESP), is already changing how the hospital handles emergencies and delivery cases. Previously, most mothers would be rushed to faraway facilities in case of complications.
Kajiado County Executive Committee Member for Health, Alex Kilowua, during the commissioning, said the facility is a big step towards enhancing healthcare in the county.
This new theatre is a milestone for Kitengela and our county. It now implies that mothers can deliver safely and close to their homes,” he said.
The theatre was developed through a collaboration between the national and county governments, as part of a comprehensive strategy to equip and modernize hospitals and response to emergencies.
The nurses at the hospital say the new machines will make their job easier and cut down waiting times for those patients who need to undergo surgery.
“This is a big relief,” said one nurse. “We’ve had cases when we referred mothers to Nairobi or Kajiado town. Now we can handle most emergencies here.”
As part of NESP, hospitals across the country are being equipped with better facilities and equipment to improve delivery of services.
For Kitengela, the new theatre is more than an infrastructure project it’s a promise of dignity and safer motherhood for the hundreds of families that use the hospital every day.
