Comedian and media personality Oga Obinna has debuted a striking new look — a completely shaved head — in a personal and culturally rooted tribute to the late Raila Amolo Odinga.
Speaking candidly to his followers, Obinna shared that he hadn’t gone bald since his early childhood.
But this time, he said, the decision wasn’t driven by style or reinvention, but by tradition, symbolism, and deep respect.
Obinna explained that the gesture was in line with Luo mourning customs, where shaving one’s head is a traditional expression of grief following the loss of a loved one.
“I don’t remember the last time I shaved my head. But in Luo culture, to mourn and symbolise grieving, we used to shave our heads,” he said.
“Nowadays, very few people still do it — and that’s okay. But for myself, for Baba, I chose to shave my head as a symbol of mourning.”
Despite the sadness surrounding Raila Odinga’s death, Obinna described the act as both a tribute and a celebration of a life well-lived.
“It’s a celebration of life — a good man to heaven,” he said, encouraging fans to “be proud of your decisions” and to honour personal values and beliefs, especially in moments of loss.
Raila Odinga, Kenya’s former Prime Minister and long-standing opposition leader, died on October 15 while receiving treatment in India. He was laid to rest on October 19 at his family home in Bondo, Siaya County.
Obinna’s gesture adds to the many tributes pouring in from across the country and beyond, as Kenyans mourn the passing of a political icon whose legacy shaped generations.
