The family of former President Mwai Kibaki has paid a glowing tribute to the late Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga, describing him as a towering figure in Kenya’s political history whose legacy will endure for generations.
In a heartfelt message, Jimmy Kibaki said the family received news of Raila Odinga’s passing in India “with deep sadness and loss,” adding that the former Prime Minister “bestrode the Republic of Kenya like a Colossus.”
“Raila Odinga was no ordinary mortal,” Kibaki said. “From the fiery political agitator of the 1980s and 1990s to the esteemed and accomplished statesman of his latter years, Raila’s service and contribution to this country is as extraordinary as it is exemplary.”
Kibaki hailed Odinga’s enduring influence, noting that his name “now joins the pantheon of the giants of post-Independence Kenya.”
On behalf of the Kibaki family, he extended condolences to Mama Ida Odinga, their family, and the people of Nyanza and Siaya, as well as to all Kenyans “during this trying and difficult time.”
“We pray that Raila Odinga’s immortal soul now rests in perfect peace,” he concluded.
