Five-time world champion Faith Kipyegon continued her phenomenal 2025 season with a historic performance at the Athlos NYC meet on Friday night, claiming her second title at the event and setting the fastest women’s mile ever run on American soil.

The Kenyan star clocked an incredible 4:17.78 at New York’s Icahn Stadium to headline the night.

Athlos NYC, an elite invitational meet focused on showcasing the world’s fastest women, blends top-tier competition with entertainment—featuring high-energy music, DJ sets, and a modern presentation style aimed at reinventing the track and field experience.

The event also offers significant prize money and prioritizes athlete-centric production.

Kipyegon’s victory adds to what has already been a stellar season. Back in April, she opened her campaign at the Diamond League meeting in Xiamen, where she posted 2:29.21 over 1000m—the third-fastest time in history, narrowly missing the world record.

She then made history at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, winning the women’s 1500m in 3:52.15 and securing her fourth world title over the distance after previous golds in 2017, 2022, and 2023.

That win also marked Kenya’s third gold medal of the championships.

With the global season winding down, Kipyegon has now turned her focus to inspiring her fellow Kenyan athletes—particularly the men—urging them to rise to the occasion and match the success of the country’s women on the international stage.
