The government has appointed Njoroge Wachira as the acting Chief Executive Officer of the Pyrethrum Processing Company (PPC), signaling the start of major reforms in the pyrethrum sub-sector.
Agriculture Principal Secretary Paul Rono, who confirmed the appointment, said strategic changes are underway to reposition pyrethrum as a high-value crop in Kenya’s agricultural landscape. He noted that the government is banking on investments and policy reforms to boost farmer earnings and attract private sector participation.“I wish him and the team success as they drive sector renewal. Our strategic investments are elevating pyrethrum into a high-value crop—boosting yields, empowering farmers,” Rono stated.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, new regulations and private-public partnership ventures will be introduced to incentivize production and ensure profitability for farmers.
The PPC board has been tasked with instituting progressive policies and implementing reforms that will encourage investment, expand processing capacity, and further formalize the sub-sector.
The reforms are expected to revitalize pyrethrum farming, which has faced years of decline, and restore Kenya’s position as a leading global supplier of natural insecticide extracts.
