Kenya has slipped two spots in the latest FIFA rankings, falling from 109th in July 2025 to 111th.

The drop comes despite a solid showing at the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), where the Harambee Stars reached the quarter-finals.

Kenya exited the tournament after a 1-1 draw with Madagascar, ultimately losing 4-3 in a penalty shootout. That disappointment was compounded by a 3-1 defeat to The Gambia in a World Cup qualifier at Kasarani.

Although Kenya bounced back with a dominant 5-0 win over Seychelles, the overall results have all but ended their hopes of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

FIFA rankings are determined based on match results, the strength of the opposition, and the significance of the matches.

Victories against higher-ranked teams in major competitions carry greater weight. Kenya’s defeats in crucial fixtures have contributed to their ranking decline, returning them to a position similar to where they stood for much of 2025.

Tanzania dropped four places to 107th, while Uganda climbed six spots to 82nd — a notable improvement.

These shifts reflect performances at CHAN 2024 and in recent international fixtures. All three CHAN co-hosts — Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda — were eliminated in the quarter-finals.

Tanzania fell 1-0 to Morocco, Kenya were edged out on penalties by Madagascar, and Uganda lost 1-0 to Senegal in front of a home crowd in Kampala.

Despite the exits, the regional sides showed signs of progress. Uganda, in particular, reached the CHAN quarter-finals for the first time in six appearances, topping a challenging group that featured Algeria and South Africa.

Across the continent, Morocco remains the highest-ranked CAF team, underscoring the tightly contested nature of African football — where slim margins often determine tournament success and global standing.
