The people of Makadara Constituency in Nairobi County have received timely and quality medical care during a free health camp organized by Health Aid Assistance International.

The outreach held at Joseph Apudo Primary School in Makongeni was able to treat and provide services to more than 300 patients who included children and the aged.

The doctors and other healthcare workers providing the services were diagnosing and treating various chronic conditions that have been the community’s problems, among them hypertension, diabetes, and respiratory diseases.

The organizers further revealed that most of the locals have a habit of self-medication because they do not have access to health facilities that are close by. Joanne Amara Sinei, the CEO of Health Aid Assistance International, urged the residents to always seek help from the right and qualified health professionals, and also use the free medical services that are offered in their communities.

“We want to instill in people the idea that their health should be a priority. In such cases, it is advisable to make a hospital visit to get checked and avoid any complications,” Sinei said.

The residents were happy with the gesture and thanked the organizers for the initiative. Many of them said that they find it difficult to access treatment regularly since the medical costs are high.

This health camp is one of the ways the organization is trying to close the gaps in health care in the slums of Nairobi City area
