- Former Dagoretti MP Dennis Waweru described the late Karanja as an administrator who served the people diligently.

The Leader of Minority in the Nairobi City County Assembly Anthony Kiragu Karanja has lost his father, retired senior chief ‘sir’ Edward Karanja.
In a moving statement to the plenary on Tuesday, July 29, 2025 the Minority Whip Mark Mugambi informed the House about the death of retired senior chief Karanja on Sunday morning.
”Mr Speaker, it is on a sad note that I convey a message on the demise of the father of our Leader of Minority, the honourable ‘bishop’ Anthony Kiragu”, Mugambi said.
Burial arrangements are being organized by a committee sitting at the family home in Waithaka Ward. Mugambi appealed to the MCAs to pay the family a visit and condole with them.
Several leaders in the city have sent their condolences to the family of the former administrator, describing him as an amiable person who served people diligently.
In his message of condolences, former Dagoretti South MP Dennis Waweru said: "I am deeply saddened to learn about the passing of retired Senior Chief Edward Karanja, a valuable member of our community who contributed to the socio-economic welfare of not only Waithaka Ward but also the entire Dagoretti South".
The late Senior Chief Karanja is the father of Waithaka Ward MCA and Leader of Minority in Nairobi City County Assembly, Anthony Kiragu and Ms Aisha Karanja, a member of Nairobi County Public Service Board.
’Sir’ Edward Karanja as he was fondly referred to, is remembered for his diligence while serving as a chief in various suburbs across Nairobi City.
Among the stations, Senior Chief Karanja served in Waithaka, Ngara, Mugumoini, Riruta, South C, Karura, Highbridge and Westlands.
Uthiru/Ruthimitu Ward MCA Maina wa Njuguna and Karura Ward MCA Kamau Thuo Fiunifiu have also sent their condolences to the family of the late Senior Chief Karanja.
"Mzee Karanja was a distinguished public administrator who served our country with dedication and integrity, particularly during his tenure as a Provincial Administrator in Karura, Highridge and Westlands. May his soul rest in peace", said Fiunifiu in a statement.
