The government, through the Public Service Commission, opened applications for 4,000 internship positions in the State Department for Housing and Urban Development, offering recent graduates a rare chance to gain hands-on experience in one of Kenya’s most ambitious public programmes.
In a notice issued this week, the Ministry of Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development confirmed that the internship vacancies will cut across more than 40 professional fields, including architecture, engineering, interior design, ICT, communication, environment, law, and digital marketing.
In a subsequent notice, PSC announced a new application deadline for the opportunities, from September 6 to August 14.
The 12-month internship is among the government initiatives for passing practical skills to young Kenyans and at the same time providing support to the Affordable Housing Programme.
The successful applicants shall be deployed to areas of work in projects across the country, where they shall receive real-life tasks from their supervisors.
The applicants are expected to have a degree or diploma in any of the above-discussed fields, have graduated not earlier than 2018, and ought to have good computer skills.
Successful candidates will be paid a monthly stipend, an amount to be determined by the State Department, and will receive an official certificate upon completion of the programme.
Duties will depend on the place of deployment but generally include the routine duties outlined with the supervisor, recording of skills gained, and full participation in mentorship meetings geared towards enhancing their professional development.
Eligible candidates are expected to apply online through the Public Service Commission portal at www.publicservice.go.ke or www.psckjobs.go.ke. Applicants who had already submitted the application before the extension do not need to reapply.
The ministry calls for those eligible graduates not to miss this opportunity to assist national development and gain decent experience in housing and urban planning.
