The local Kenyan football community is mourning the death of Fortune Sacco FC head coach Sylvester Odero, who died in a road accident earlier today.

The club verified the information, expressing how Odero’s departure has created an enormous void not only at Fortune Sacco, but also in the National Super League (NSL), where he was gaining a reputation as a creative and modern strategist.

On April 14, 2025, he joined Fortune Sacco and in a relatively short period, he had transformed the team into competitive title contenders.

He took them to the 5th position in the last term and they finished the season with 58 points, which was a great testimonial for his coaching skills and intuition.

He had already started preparing the team for the upcoming season, which he believed would have been more competitive.

Odero held a CAF B license and had spent years working in grassroots football.

He previously led Kirinyaga Stars to the Division Two playoffs against Kabati Youth and had stints with the Kenya Academy of Sports (KAS), working with the national U17 girls’ team. He also served as a match analyst for Murang’a SEAL.

Those who knew Odero describe him as principled, focused, and bold in his decisions—a coach who stood by his choices, no matter the noise from outside.
