A grieving family in Baringo is accusing the hospital staff of negligence following the death of their 17-year-old son, Jackson Temagura.

On Tuesday the family stormed into the hospital which led to disruption of normal operations for a while, as relatives demanded accountability from health workers they claim failed to act in time to save the teen.

According to the family, Jackson had been referred from Kolowa Hospital on Monday evening with an intestinal obstruction. They say they arrived at the Baringo facility at around 8pm, but were told the X-ray machine was not working.

Left with no choice, the family sought imaging services from a private clinic a move they say caused critical delays.

Although Jackson was eventually admitted at 6pm, the family says he was not taken into emergency surgery until it was too late. He died the following morning at 9:30am.

The hospital superintendent Dr. Gerrishon Abakalwa admitted the the facility is facing major challenges when it comes to equipments, including broken equipment and overcrowding.

He also confirmed that an internal probe is going on and promised disciplinary action if any staff is found culpable.
