Hundreds of youth heading back to Nairobi from the 2025 Diani Summer Tides Festival were stopped by police at the Dongo Kundu bypass near Likoni on Sunday.
The group, who planned to catch the 2pm SGR train, was told to return to their hotels, with police citing fears they would join Monday’s anti-government “Saba Saba” protests in Nairobi.
Stranded and frustrated, many said they lacked money for an extra night. The incident has sparked public outrage over what critics call an unlawful restriction of freedom of movement.
By evening, the youth remained blocked as officers awaited “orders from above.”
