Ojwang died in a misterious death after he was arrested by police officers at his home in Homa Bay. He was taken to Nairobi Central Police Station, where he was reported dead a day after
The blogger died in police custody, where authorities claimed he had injured himself on the head. He was rushed to Mbagathi Hospital, where he was pronounced dead and taken to City Mortuary at around 1-2 AM the following day.
His death raised alarm in the country and internationally after a post-mortem revealed he died of blunt force trauma and assault.
The family of Albert Ojwang’s has called for swift justice for their son, who was arrested on June 7 over an alleged defamatory statement on the social media platform X against the Deputy Director General of police, Eliud Lagat.
Speaking during a requiem mass in Ridgeways Church, Misheck Ojwang, the father of the late teacher, said those who killed his son will remain in trouble. “The innocent heart of my son Albert that was spilled by those in power so that they remain in power and hide their evil deeds should know that they will remain with respect and riches, but they will have no peace in their lives,” he said.
The mourners who eulogised Albert Ojwang during the funeral service at Ridgeways Baptist Church, Kiambu Road, also called for an end to extra-judicial killings.
Albert will be laid to rest in Kakwonyo in his father’s land in Homa Bay county on Friday July 4. His body will be transported on Thursday from Nairobi
