A man posing as a lawyer has been arrested in Uasin Gishu County after operating a human rights organisation and law firm for nearly seven years without any legal qualifications.

Law Society of Kenya (LSK) Council Member Steve Mbugua confirmed the arrest during a press briefing on June 19, revealing that the suspect had been offering legal services and drafting court documents unlawfully.

“It is unfortunate that we have recovered very critical documents, which have been drafted by persons who are not qualified,” Mbugua said, adding that vital files related to ongoing court cases were seized.

The arrest followed reports from the public and LSK officials. Mbugua warned others engaged in similar illegal practice, as the crackdown on fake lawyers continues.

Earlier this month, five individuals were arrested in Bungoma for posing as lawyers and running four law firms over 13 years.
