Health Cabinet Secretary Hon. Aden Duale today led the launch of Kenya’s Health Facility Digitalization initiative, marking a key step toward a fully digitized national health system.
During the event, 1,114 digital devices were distributed to public health facilities across Garissa County. The rollout is part of a broader plan to enhance service delivery, secure patient data, and promote nationwide health system transparency.
Through the new Health Information Exchange (HIE) system, Kenyans will now be able to access their health records from anywhere in the country, improving care continuity and accountability.
CS Duale noted that digitization efforts have already helped close 875 non-compliant health facilities and eliminated over 3 million fraudulent NHIF entries.
Only accredited facilities will now be included under the new Social Health Authority (SHA).
The Ministry of Health has also trained 367 health workers in Garissa on digital systems, with a target of 1,700. Over 74,000 digital devices are expected to be deployed nationally.
The launch coincided with the conclusion of a 5-day free medical camp, where Duale urged citizens to register for SHA and embrace Taifa Care as part of ongoing UHC reforms.
