President William Ruto has announced a joint initiative between the Ministry of ICT and the Ministry of Energy aimed at accelerating internet connectivity across the country by leveraging existing electricity infrastructure.

Speaking during a development address on Thursday, the President said the government is now using Kenya Power’s electricity lines to deliver internet directly to communities, as part of a renewed strategy to achieve universal digital access.

“We are undertaking a robust program between the Ministry of ICT and the Ministry of Energy. We are now using the Kenya Power lines to deliver internet,” said President Ruto. “I know we did this before, differently, and it is our intention to deliver internet to every ward.”

The President emphasized that internet connectivity is no longer a luxury but a necessity for education, innovation, and economic inclusion—especially for youth in remote areas.

The initiative is expected to significantly reduce the cost and time of infrastructure deployment, enabling even rural wards to benefit from high-speed internet and digital services.
