China remains one of Kenya’s largest bilateral development partners.

The partnership involves ongoing joint initiatives in key sectors such as transport infrastructure (notably the Standard Gauge Railway), healthcare, and digital economy.

In this regard, the Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs has arrived in Changsha, China, to participate in the Ministerial Coordinator’s Meeting.

The engagement forms part of the ongoing implementation of the outcomes of the Beijing Forum on China–Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit.

This crucial meeting brings together senior representatives from African nations and the People’s Republic of China to assess progress, strengthen diplomatic ties, and align shared development priorities under the FOCAC framework.

The government has reaffirmed future engagements that prioritize sustainable financing models, skills transfer, and the empowerment of local industries.

The engagement focuses on deepening cooperation in areas such as trade, infrastructure development, health, education, technology transfer, and sustainable development.

“Kenya remains committed to the spirit of multilateral partnership that FOCAC represents,” said Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi in a statement on X.

The Changsha meeting provides a strategic platform for African ministers and Chinese officials to evaluate the progress made since the last summit, identify challenges, and chart a way forward that ensures mutual benefit and strategic alignment.

“We look forward to building on existing collaborations and exploring new avenues that support our national development goals, regional integration, and the AU Agenda 2063,” said Musalia Mudavadi.
