Four suspects linked to a spate of violent robberies in Nairobi and parts of Western Kenya have been arrested in a multi-agency security operation led by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

The suspects, three Ugandan nationals and one Kenyan, were found in possession of three firearms and over 50 rounds of ammunition. The operation, conducted on Thursday, May 22, targeted various estates in Nairobi including Dandora, Saika, Huruma, and Pumwani.

It was launched following detailed intelligence analysis by the DCI’s Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau which tracked the movement and operations of the criminal gang.

According to authorities, the suspects—identified as Sipholi Sam Wafula alias Sande, Ogomba Alex, Mohammed Musa, and Wafula Clinton—had been orchestrating armed robberies in different parts of the country.

Their arrest marks a significant breakthrough in efforts to dismantle the organized gang.Sipholi Sam Wafula was the first to be apprehended in Saika estate. A search of his house led to the recovery of a loaded Falcon pistol hidden under a pillow.

His arrest paved the way for the arrest of Ogomba Alex in Dandora, where detectives found an AK-47 assault rifle loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition concealed beneath a couch.

Further investigations took the detectives to Huruma, where they arrested Mohammed Musa, who has since been identified as the owner of the recovered AK-47 rifle. Musa was found living with his family at the time of the arrest.

Preliminary findings indicate that the three Ugandan nationals had sneaked back into the country via the Malaba border on May 21, barely 24 hours before the arrests. They had reportedly fled to Uganda following a violent robbery in Eastleigh.

The alleged ringleader, Wafula Clinton, a Kenyan resident of Githurai 45, was arrested in Pumwani. A search revealed a Palleberum Feg 9mm pistol loaded with nine rounds tucked in his waist. Authorities believe Clinton was the chief strategist behind the gang’s criminal activities.

The arrests foiled a planned armed robbery targeting a business premise on 12th Street, Eastleigh. While other members of the gang managed to escape, police say they have been positively identified and are being pursued. The four suspects are currently in custody at DCI Starehe and are scheduled to appear in an identification parade before being arraigned in court.

Police say the successful operation underscores ongoing efforts to crack down on transnational crime and ensure public safety.
