Health Cabinet Secretary Hon. Aden Duale held high-level talks today with a visiting delegation from UNAIDS, led by Country Director Ms. Medhin Tsehaiu, as part of ongoing efforts to bolster Kenya’s HIV/AIDS response and move closer to achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

The discussions focused on strengthening technical collaboration under the UNAIDS-led H6 Partnership, which brings together key global health institutions including UNFPA, UNICEF, UN Women, WHO, UNAIDS, and the World Bank Group. The partnership aims to support Kenya in enhancing its health and social systems to deliver a more resilient and sustainable HIV response.

CS Duale expressed appreciation for the critical support UNAIDS has provided over the years and called for deeper collaboration in implementing Kenya’s HIV Sustainability and Transition Plan. He highlighted three strategic focus areas: eliminating mother-to-child transmission of HIV, ensuring the resilience of the HIV response beyond 2030, and integrating digital health innovations as part of the UHC rollout.

Reiterating Kenya’s commitment to ending HIV among children, the CS emphasized the importance of aligning efforts with the Social Health Authority framework and ensuring accountability and integrity within the Ministry’s operations.

“Partnerships like this are key to safeguarding the gains we’ve made and ensuring we leave no one behind,” said Hon. Duale. “Our collective focus must be on sustainable systems, innovation, and a people-centered approach to healthcare.”

Also present at the meeting were Dr. Patrick Amoth, Director General for Health, and Dr. Andrew Mulwa, Head of the National AIDS & STI Control Programme (NASCOP), who both reaffirmed the Ministry’s dedication to driving progress through evidence-based policy and inclusive stakeholder engagement.

UNAIDS continues to coordinate the efforts of 11 UN agencies, providing strategic support to national governments in line with global sustainable development goals and national health priorities.
