Abel Mutua, the veteran actor and content creator, has ignited a conversation by strongly advocating for the construction of a 20,000-seat indoor arena in Kenya, following recent disruptions at events.
In a post on his official Instagram, Mutua pointed out that while malls have had their time, it’s now essential to shift focus towards building large indoor arenas, especially as the Orange Economy continues to grow.
His comments come shortly after the chaotic scenes at Raha Fest. The organizers of the event released a statement addressing the unrest while expressing gratitude to their supporters. They highlighted their efforts to bring top-tier experiences to Kenyans, similar to those found in South Africa, Ghana, and Nigeria.
Despite the challenges, the organizers remained committed to maintaining high standards. They celebrated the success of events like Raha Rave, headlined by Ya Levis, and the first day of Raha Fest, which featured Bnxn (formerly known as Buju).
However, the final day of Raha Fest, headlined by Shenseea, was marred by chaos that overshadowed the event’s success.
In their statement, the organizers expressed concern over a rising sense of entitlement among some Kenyan attendees. Mutua echoed a similar sentiment in his post, emphasizing that “proper indoor arenas will save us all a lot of trouble,” and reinforcing his point that malls have had their time.
He also pointed to Kigali as a successful example, highlighting that indoor arenas are not only easier to secure and weatherproof but also offer solid business opportunities.
