KALRO Koibatek Project Advances Agricultural Research in Baringo
Principal Secretary for ICT and the Digital Economy John Tanui has assessed progress on an agricultural research and training initiative at the Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organisation (KALRO) Koibatek facility in Eldama Ravine, Baringo County.
This initiative involves KALRO, Koibatek Agricultural Training Centre (ATC), Baringo County Government and the planned Kabarnet University who will improve on agricultural innovation, research, and capacity building.
During the visit, Tanui made an inspection of the setting up of seed nursery that will enable multiplication of quality planting materials for farming. Infrastructure development has also begun to support the facility’s long-term operation.
The PS also took part in tree planting activity underscoring the need to align conservation activities with agricultural development for sustainability and resilience.
“By investing in agricultural research, practical skills and environmental sustainability, we are laying the groundwork for a more productive and resilient agricultural sector in Baringo County, ” said Tanui.
Furthermore, the project will enable transfer of knowledge, improve agriculture practices and bolster the collaboration between research bodies, training centres and county governments.
The Project highlight the significance of integrating science with skills development and conservation to advance sustainable farming and economic development in Baringo County.
