Authorities in Marsabit County have recovered 23 unexploded bombs buried underground in Hellu village, Moyale constituency.
The devices were discovered by unknown individuals who had been digging in the area, reportedly in search of minerals or valuable items believed to have been left behind by colonial settlers.
Confirming the incident, Marsabit County Police Commander Leonard Kimaiyo said the bombs, each measuring 81 millimeters, were found in holes dug by the locals.
“The area has since been secured, and Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officers from the Odda camp have been deployed. An explosives expert is on the way to safely detonate the bombs,” Kimaiyo said.
Residents have been cautioned against engaging in such activities without proper authorization, citing potential risks to life and security.
Security agencies are continuing investigations into the incident.
