A 21-year-old woman was found stabbed to death inside her aunt’s house in Umoja Two, Nairobi, in an incident police suspect could be linked to intimate partner violence.

Francisca Wanja Thuranira was found lying unresponsive on the lower deck of a double-decker bed on Tuesday after her aunt raised the alarm when she failed to answer phone calls.

Police said Thuranira had sustained eight stab wounds to the chest.

Her aunt told police she had left her niece at home in the morning as she went to work. Around midday, she tried calling Thuranira but received no response.

She then sent a neighbour to check on her. The neighbour found the house open and, upon entering, discovered Thuranira lying unresponsive on the bed.

Police were called to the scene and crime scene officers processed the house before the body was moved to the Mama Lucy Kibaki Referral Hospital mortuary pending a postmortem examination.

Detectives suspect the killing could be linked to a relationship that had turned sour, with Thuranira’s boyfriend being treated as the main suspect.

The boyfriend had not been traced and his identity was not immediately established.

Nairobi police boss Issa Mohamud said detectives were pursuing leads to establish the whereabouts of the suspected assailant and determine the circumstances surrounding the killing.

Man found dead in Imara Daima house

Elsewhere in Nairobi, a 49-year-old man was found dead inside his rental house in Imara Daima after relatives and a caretaker noticed a foul smell coming from the locked premises.

Samuel Mugo’s body was discovered on Tuesday after his sister, accompanied by a caretaker, went to the house in the Kobil area.

The house was locked from inside when they arrived, while a foul smell was coming from within.

After looking through the premises, they noticed Mugo’s naked body lying on the floor and alerted police.

Officers responded and gained entry by breaking down the door.

Mugo was found lying in a supine position. Police said the date and time of his death were not immediately known.
