Kajiado County women beg the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) to help them to speed up the justice process for the victims of Gender-Based Violence (GBV). They say that the perpetrators have not been challenged because many cases have been stalled in courts for a long time.
When they were speaking during a community dialogue, they blamed the slow pace of justice for the reason why survivors had gone to the judicial system, saying that it was negating them as the offenders were left at large.
According to LSK President Faith Odhiambo, one of the main issues the society has received is the problem of GBV in Kajiado that comprises cases of defilement and femicide as well. She explained the grotesque cases of a serial rapist who is alleged to have been terrorizing Magadi in Kajiado West Sub-County which Tuala and Oloosirkon villages in Kajiado East are the other two places mentioned.
Odhiambo remarked that the mission of LSK is to give justice to the survivors through good partnerships with the police and the judiciary to accelerate the cases that are still hanging. She also encouraged the existence of community awareness and safety activities as a way of halting the trend of violence against women and girls in the area.
