The mysterious death of Mercy Keino, in which ICT Cabinet Secretary nominee William Kabogo was adversely mentioned, came up again during his vetting for the position.
The then-University of Nairobi student’s body was found along Waiyaki Way in June 2011 and a witness said she died after a disagreement with Kabogo at a party on the fateful night.
However, addressing the matter during his vetting on Tuesday, January 14, Kabogo denied involvement in Keino’s death, clarifying she was killed in a hit-and-run accident.
The ICT CS nominee also denied knowing Keino, saying he learned of her death two weeks after her burial.
Kabogo told the MPs that after the lady’s death, an inquest was done and the trial magistrate court exonerated him.
"I heard of her death two weeks after she was buried. And even if I had met her at that restaurant I never would have noticed her. It's a sad story. I sincerely had nothing to do with it...I sympathise with her family...I believe one day that the truck driver who killed Mercy Keino will come out and publicly admit being responsible for the death," said Kabogo.
