Two Arrested in Mombasa for Running Unlicensed Employment Agency

Two individuals who are suspected of running a job recruitment agency in Mombasa without a licence have been arrested by the police.

The arrests follow after police received a tip-off and raided an office in the Makadara area, where the firm Al-Wajib Investments Ltd was running its operations from a residential house.

Two directors of the company, Bilal Dundo Nyanje and Ali Abu Bakari, were apprehended during the raid.

Various documents were recovered from the office by the police, including an expired National Employment Authority (NEA) certificate, company registers, a receipt book, and an official stamp.

All the documents were seized as exhibits.

The suspects are being held in police custody pending arraignment before court.

In a press release, the National Police Service warned Kenyans to exercise caution when dealing with labour agencies offering work outside the country.

The police requested job seekers to check with the National Employment Authority to confirm an agency is properly licensed.

“Agencies that are permitted to recruit for work outside the country are the only one linced by NEA,” the police stated.

Police have assured that the crackdown on illegal recruitment agencies continues, and anyone found in contravention of the law would be prosecuted.
