The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has invited leaders of public schools across the country to a series of virtual meetings to be held next week. The leaders will be meeting the Head of Public Service, Mr. Felix Koskei.
According to the notice issued on Friday, March 6, the TSC requested the attendance of the school heads, deputies, board members, and other senior leaders of public schools.
Secondary school leaders will be meeting Mr. Koskei on Wednesday, March 11, starting at 9 a.m., while those from primary schools will be meeting the following day, Thursday, March 12, also at 9 a.m.
The commission explained to the school leaders that the meeting will be focusing on the role of the teachers in the public service. It will also cover the responsibility of the teachers in the implementation of the values and principles set out in the Constitution.
The school leaders have been requested to contact the TSC offices in their respective counties for the meeting link, details of the meeting, and other relevant information.
This meeting is set to be the largest meeting of school leaders in recent times. The government is likely to use the meeting to emphasize the importance of accountability among the school leaders.
Mr. Koskei has been pushing for a more disciplined public service. He has been encouraging government agencies to work within the boundaries of the Constitution. He has also been emphasizing the importance of accountability in the running of the government.
Recently, Mr. Koskei met principal secretaries, board members, and leaders of various research institutions. He criticized the government for the habit of launching programs without doing enough research.
Mr. Koskei explained that policies should be informed from the outset by the results of the relevant studies. He said the government should not be waiting for things to go wrong before they do the relevant studies.
Mr. Koskei said the country’s future lies in the decisions made through the results of the relevant studies.
