The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has announced 54,016 vacancies in one of its biggest recruitment and promotion exercises in recent years, opening up opportunities for both serving teachers and those seeking employment in Junior Schools.

In a notice issued on Tuesday, the Commission advertised 34,016 promotion vacancies for teachers already in service and 20,000 teaching positions for post-primary educators to support Junior Schools under the Competency-Based Education (CBE) curriculum.

The promotions target teachers across several leadership and administrative ranks, including Chief Principal, Senior Principal, Principal, Deputy Principal, Senior Headteacher, Deputy Headteacher, Senior Master, Senior Teacher and Senior Lecturer.

Teachers interested in the promotion opportunities have until midnight on August 10, 2026, to submit their applications through the TSC online recruitment portal.

Among the advertised positions, Senior Teacher II has the highest number of vacancies, with 13,490 posts available. It is followed by 5,956 Senior Master IV positions and 4,210 Senior Teacher I vacancies.

The Commission is also looking to fill 3,075 Deputy Headteacher II positions, 1,865 Deputy Headteacher I posts, 1,665 Senior Master III vacancies, 1,068 Deputy Principal III positions and 891 Deputy Principal II slots, among other advertised roles.

TSC said successful applicants would be deployed to schools where vacancies exist, adding that the recruitment process will be conducted fairly and on merit.

The Commission also urged people with disabilities to take advantage of the opportunity and apply for the job, thereby emphasizing its determination to promote equal employment opportunities.

In another recruitment advertisement, TSC advertised 20,000 job openings for secondary school teachers who will be posted to Junior Schools as the government introduces the Competency-Based Education curriculum.

Applicants for the Junior Schools will be accepted from August 18 to August 31, 2026, via the Commission’s online application website.

For one to be eligible for the positions, he/she has to be a citizen of Kenya, possess a minimum Diploma in Education, score a minimum of a grade C+ in KCSE overall, and a grade C+ in all the two teaching subjects. Additionally, the candidates have to be registered with the Teachers Service Commission.

The Commission emphasized that those with previous employment with TSC, which led to their dismissal on disciplinary grounds, will not be considered.

TSC also cautioned applicants against fraudsters, emphasising that the entire recruitment exercise is free of charge and warning members of the public not to pay anyone claiming they can influence the hiring process.

The latest recruitment and promotion exercise is expected to strengthen staffing levels in schools across the country while addressing the growing demand for teachers as the implementation of the Competency-Based Education curriculum gathers pace.
