World champions led by Beatrice Chebet and Emmanuel Wanyonyi are among sports personalities of the Year Awards (SOYA), gala to be awarded on Friday night at Uhuru Gardens, Nairobi. The awards of the sportsmen and women 2025 will be crowned in 16 different categories.
Chebet and Wanyonyi have retained their overall in the sportsmen and sportswoman of the Year awards which they bagged last year. Chebet bagged double gold in the 5,000m and 10,000m, while Wanyonyi bagged his gold in the 800m at Tokyo World Athletics Championships in 2025.
Faith Kipyegon, Faith Cherotich, Lillian Odira and German- born Kenya pioneer Alexandra Ndolo are among competing for the top honors with alongside Beatrice Chebet.
Harambee star forward Ryan Ogam and golf player Njoroge Kibugu have been nominated in the men’s SOYA award.
Nairobi City Thunder forward Albert Odero and Berlin Marathon champion Sabastian Sawe are among the men’s nominations.
The gala event will be graced by Ethiopian former marathon world record holder Haile Gebrselassie.
The SOYA was founded by five- time world cross- country champion and retired NOC-K president Paul Tergat.
