Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on Tuesday revealed that at least three suspects have been arrested by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations ( DCI) in Meru.
This comes a day after the former Governor announced a Sh300,000 reward for any information that could lead to the arrest of members of a Meru bodaboda gang accused of sexually assaulting a young woman in a widely condemned incident.
Sonko, who shared details of the case on his social media platforms, expressed outrage over the attack and urged members of the public to assist authorities in identifying the perpetrators.
On Tuesday,Sonko confirmed that three members of the gang had been arrested.
"The rapists have finally been arrested.Justice must be done for the victim,"
Sonko said that the DCI has assured to nub all those involved.
"Let this be a clear message to every predator out there: You can run, you can hide, but the law will catch up with you. No woman deserves violence. No survivor deserves silence. No rapist deserves freedom,"
While there is no official confirmation by the DCI,Sonko congratulated the agency led by by Amin Mohammed.
He revealed that the incident was allegedly occasioned by cultural believes that demands young boys preparing for circumcision to sleep with a woman.
He revealed that another woman was also forced through the same ordeal with the survivors undergoing treatment before being evacuated to Nairobi for special attention and counseling.
The assault, reportedly captured on video and circulated online, sparked public fury, with rights groups demanding immediate action against those involved.
Sonko urged Kenyans to stand with survivors of sexual violence and condemned rising cases of attacks targeting women.
