There is a sigh of relief among the people of Uasin Gushu County following the dismantling of part of a notorious gang which was terrorizing the region through robbery and attacks.
Through a well-coordinated operation, the police arrested three suspected gang members and retrieved an AK-47 rifle that had a magazine with ten rounds of ammunition, concealed in a thicket within the homestead of one of the suspected gang members, one Titus Wainaina Njoroge.
The suspected robbers, who include Titus Wainaina Njoroge, Jeremiah Njuguna Kinyanjui, alias Chikudee, and Patrick Kinuthia Mwangi, are thought to be part of a cruel gang that has been terrorizing households and motorists in the county of Uasin Gishu, leaving victims with traumatised family members and dead bodies in their wake.
Their arrest was the culmination of a joint operation carried out by detectives from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB), together with officers from the DCI headquarters operation unit and their counterparts in the Uasin Gishu. The arrest comes after a series of tracking and intelligence follow-ups on the movements of the gang.
These three are suspected of being responsible for a terrifying attack that occurred on November 22, 2025, when a family claims to have been held hostage in their house. They left the family car as well as forced them to transfer cash from their mobile wallets while their relatives watched in horror.
More shocking is their suspected connection with the murder of Richard Rotich, a pharmacist at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, who was murdered in a robbery with violence on January 7, 2026. The police suspect that it was the same people, known to use different identities obtained through fraud, who committed the murder through an attack that proved fatal.
Of these, one of the suspects, Titus Wainaina Njoroge, alias Bikos, is a repeat offender, according to the police description. These are some of the previous offenses he was associated with: attempted robbery in Eldoret in 2011, robbery with violence in Langas in 2017, and two escapes from custody and court in 2012 and 2014, respectively.
The three men are already in police custody and are being processed for arraignment as the investigations continue. Police also reported that they are still pursuing the other members of the gang who are still at large.
On the other hand, the public has been encouraged to work with the police in ensuring the safety of their communities by reporting any information through the #FichuaKwaDCI hotline, toll-free line 0800 722 203, as well as on WhatsApp at 0709 570 000. In Uasin Gishu, for many families, these arrests mean a moment of peace, and for some, a kindled hope that the dark nights of fear will come to an end.
