The Sports Disputes Tribunal has lifted the three-year ban that had been imposed on Onjiko Boys High School by the Kisumu County Secondary Schools Sports Association (KCSSSA) on June 25.
The ruling, formalized on September 23, allows the school’s football team to resume participation in official competitions.
This decision followed a consent agreement reached between KCSSSA, the County Director of Education (represented by the Office of the Attorney General), and the claimant’s legal team, Lugano & Achura Advocates.
As part of the settlement, Onjiko High School has committed to fully adhering to KCSSSA regulations, particularly those concerning player eligibility in future tournaments.
The case was filed under Cause No. E061 of 2025 by Fredrick Otieno Okiri, a parent at Onjiko, who argued that the school had been denied a fair hearing.
He maintained that Onjiko had followed proper procedures in fielding players and had previously defended itself against similar complaints.
The original ban stemmed from allegations that Onjiko violated Rule 11 of the KCSSSA Tournament Regulations by fielding six ineligible players during a match against Kisumu Boys High School in the 2025 county games.
Alongside the suspension, the ruling had nullified all of Onjiko’s semi-final match results, significantly impacting student-athletes who had progressed through the competition stages.
To promote reconciliation, the Tribunal invoked Section 59 of the Sports Act to pursue alternative dispute resolution.
This led to a peaceful resolution, the withdrawal of the ban, and the reinstatement of Onjiko’s right to participate in school sports competitions.
