Githunguri Member of Parliament Gathoni Wambuchomba has condemned United Democratic Party UDA for expelling Nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba from the outfit.

Speaking in Mombasa on Wednesday, May 21, Wamuchomba termed the act of political persecution a violation of her right to association.

UDA expelled Orwoba over disciplinary breaches and disloyalty, citing her association with former Interior CS and 2027 presidential hopeful Fred Matiang’i.

Flanked by Kisii senator Richard Onyonka, Wamuchomba said the expulsion of Gloria paints an erosion of nationalistic ethos.

“We are saying UDA stop harassing parliamentarians, you cannot isolate Gloria from her community, you cannot say that Gloria, because she is a nominated member from UDA she cannot associate with people of her community, to think this is an erosion of nationalistic ethos," said Wamuchomba.

The reaction follows the recent action where Senate Speaker Amason Kingi on Wednesday declared Gloria’s seat vacant following her expulsion from UDA.

Weighing in on the matter, Kisii senator Richard Onyonka said the president is humiliating Orwoba because of the fear of defeat in the presidential election, where Matiang’i is likely to contest in the 2027 presidential elections.

"Gloria is a victim of circumstance who is being victimized for being friends with Matiang'i. I hope the courts will rescue her because what is happening is unacceptable, “said Onyonka.
