President William Ruto on Tuesday welcomed Azerbaijan’s Defence Industry Minister Vugar Mustafayev to State House Nairobi, where the two leaders held candid discussions on how Kenya and Azerbaijan can work more closely for the benefit of their people.

During the meeting, President Ruto emphasized the importance of nurturing relationships that go beyond formal diplomacy.

He noted that that Kenya is keen on partnerships that create real opportunities for ordinary citizens. He said the long-standing ties between Nairobi and Baku offer a strong foundation for deeper cooperation.

“Held talks with Azerbaijan’s Defence Industry minister Vugar Mustafayev at State House Nairobi. Our discussion focused on strengthening the long-standing ties between our two nations, expanding cooperation in areas of mutual interest and exploring new fields of partnership that can deliver tangible opportunities for our people,” he said.

The two leaders explored new areas where the countries can collaborate from trade and investment to technology and emerging industries with the shared belief that such partnerships can translate into jobs, skills, and growth for both nations.

Ruto and Minister Mustafayev reaffirmed their commitment to advancing trade and investment as key engines of prosperity, expressing confidence that stronger bilateral ties will help both countries tap into new global opportunities.
