President William Ruto has appointed former Ol Kalou parliamentary candidate Samuel Muchina Nyaga as a member of the Nairobi Rivers Commission, days after he lost the July 16 by-election to DCP’s Sammy Douglas Kamau.
In a special Gazette Notice dated Tuesday, July 22, the president named Muchina to the commission with immediate effect, replacing Amos Chege Mugo, whose appointment was revoked.
As a commissioner, Muchina will help oversee the restoration and rehabilitation of the Nairobi River Basin, including coordinating conservation programmes, mobilising resources, promoting stakeholder collaboration, and ensuring compliance with environmental laws.
The appointment came hours after Muchina revealed that he had met President Ruto at State House, where he was tasked with following up on development projects launched in Ol Kalou during the by-election campaign, including electrification, road construction, boreholes, housing projects, and the upgrade of JM Hospital.
Muchina said the projects would continue despite his election defeat, stressing that they were intended to benefit residents rather than serve political interests.
