Poland ended their Euro 2025 campaign on a high, claiming their first-ever goals and points at a major tournament with a 3-2 win over Denmark in Lucerne.
Already eliminated after defeats to Germany and Sweden, Poland came out with purpose.
Within 20 minutes, goals from Natalia Padilla-Bidas and captain Ewa Pajor put them 2-0 up. Padilla capitalized on a Danish error before assisting Pajor with a precise cross.
Denmark, runners-up in 2017, struggled throughout the first half and lost star striker Pernille Harder to injury.
Their best chance came in stoppage time when Signe Bruun hit the crossbar and forced a strong save from Poland keeper Kinga Szemik.
Thomsen pulled one back for Denmark early in the second half after her long-range effort slipped through Szemik’s hands.
Denmark pushed for an equaliser, with Nadia Nadim having a goal ruled out by the automated offside system.
Poland responded with a third through Martyna Wiankowska, though Bruun’s late header narrowed the gap. Poland held on to secure a memorable victory.
Denmark finished bottom of Group B with three defeats and now join the small list of teams to lose all group games in a Women’s Euro.
It was also manager Andrée Jeglertz’s final game before joining Manchester City.
For Poland, it may be the end of their tournament, but as head coach Nina Patalon said:
“It’s not the end, it’s just the beginning.”
