Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Oparanya met with officials at the Kenyan Embassy in Washington, D.C., during his stopover in America.
One of the key aspects of the dialogue was the exploitation of the strong relations between Kenya and the U.S. and Mexico to create a wider market for Kenyan coffee. The dialogue noted the importance of increasing the income of Kenyan farmers from their coffee crops.
Another aspect of the dialogue focused on the Kenyan diaspora. The government is seeking to find a way to encourage the Kenyan diaspora in the U.S. to become members of SACCOs back home. This will offer a safer investment channel for the future.
The Cabinet Secretary also discussed the changes being introduced in the SACCOs and the cooperative movement. The changes are geared towards improving leadership, increasing regulations, and protecting the savings of members.
The changes are also geared towards increasing trust among the Kenyan people, both at home and abroad.
