Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka has launched a fresh attack on former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, accusing him of intimidating fellow opposition leaders and acting as though he owns the Mt Kenya region.
Speaking during the Jubilee Party’s tour of Migori County on Wednesday, Onyonka told Gachagua to stop what he described as “bully politics” and allow other leaders to pursue their presidential ambitions.
“Your Excellency, my brother, my leader, Wamunyoro, you are making us feel uncomfortable,” Onyonka said.
“You keep saying you have the numbers and that nobody should go to Murima because it belongs to you. You believe those of us who do not have four million votes cannot become President of Kenya.”
The senator warned that Kenya’s leadership should not be determined by the size of one’s regional voting bloc.
“So we are asking you this time. It is also our time,” he said.
Onyonka further reminded Gachagua that he had also served only one term as an MP, saying no leader should use political influence to intimidate others within the opposition.
His remarks come at a time when opposition leaders are intensifying campaigns ahead of the 2027 General Election, even as questions continue to emerge over the coalition’s leadership and presidential flag bearer.
The comments were made as Jubilee leaders, led by former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, continued their tour of Migori County.
After the first day of the tour, Matiang’i thanked residents of Isebania for turning up in large numbers.
“As we conclude Day One of our tour of Migori County, I am deeply grateful to the people of Isebania for the incredible welcome you gave us this evening,” Matiang’i said in a statement shared on X.
“Your overwhelming support is a powerful reminder that Kenyans are united by a shared hope for a nation that works for everyone. Thank you for walking this journey with us. The best days of our country are still ahead.”
