A contingent of 27 officers from the National Police Service (NPS) has returned to Kenya after a successful deployment in Somalia under the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS). The officers, drawn from the Kenya Police Service, Administration Police Service, and Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), were led by Contingent Commander Mr. Dennis Wekesa, SSP.
The team was received today at the NPS headquarters, Jogoo House, by Mr. Mathew Kutoh, SAIG, the Principal Assistant to the Inspector General of Police, who represented Inspector General Mr. Douglas Kanja.
In his remarks, Mr. Kutoh commended the officers for their service and discipline, noting that no disciplinary cases were reported during their tour of duty—an achievement that speaks volumes about their professionalism and integrity.
“You have represented Kenya with honor and returned home with pride. I urge you to apply the valuable skills and experiences you have gained to enhance service delivery and transform our police stations into centres of excellence,” said Mr. Kutoh.
The welcoming ceremony was also attended by several senior NPS officials, including Director of Human Capital Development Dr. Mwangi Wanderi, SAIG, Director of Reforms Mr. John Kamau, AIG, Deputy Director of Human Capital Development Madam Joyce Kanda, AIG, and NPS Staff Officer for Peace Support Operations Mr. Albert Masese, CP.
The officers’ return marks the conclusion of another chapter in Kenya’s ongoing contribution to regional peace and security efforts through international peacekeeping missions.
