The National Police Service (NPS) has clarified the procurement process for the new Kenya Police Service General Duty uniform, dismissing reports linking the contract to an entity identified as Nallitex Limited.
In a press statement dated August 30, 2026, the NPS said the new uniforms are being manufactured by Bedi Investments Limited, which was lawfully awarded the contract following a procurement process.
The clarification comes after recent media reports raised questions about the procurement and manufacture of the new police uniform.
According to the NPS, the decision to change the General Duty uniform was part of a wider police reform programme informed by recommendations of the Maraga Task Force on Police Reforms, chaired by Chief Justice Emeritus David Maraga.
The Service said consultations with police officers revealed dissatisfaction with the existing uniform and a preference for change.
The Task Force subsequently recommended reviewing the police uniform as part of several measures arising from the broader police reform process.
The NPS said the Kenya Police Service Uniform Committee, working together with the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS), developed the required standards for the new uniform.
The police service said the procurement process was undertaken in accordance with the Public Procurement and Asset Disposal Act, 2015, together with applicable regulations and procedures.
