Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has urged leaders to exercise restraint and respect during public and social gatherings, warning against what he termed as the reckless politicization of sensitive events such as funerals.
Speaking in Captain, Ol Kalou Constituency, Nyandarua County, during a requiem service for the late Ol Kalou MP David Kiaraho, Kindiki described the deceased as a humble and dignified leader who served his constituents with integrity.
He eulogized Kiaraho as a man who balanced strength with humility, noting that his leadership style stood out for its commitment and respect for the people he served. “He was strong but dignified, brilliant but humble,” he said.
However, the Deputy President used the moment to caution political leaders against turning solemn occasions into political battlegrounds.
He emphasized the need to respect bereaved families, religious institutions, and community values during mourning periods.
“As we continue to mourn him, it is time for all of us who knew him to reflect on the impact we leave behind,” Kindiki said, adding that leaders should ensure their conduct uplifts rather than divides society.
He further urged restraint in public discourse, warning against what he termed as selfish political conduct that undermines the dignity of such gatherings.
