Kirinyaga Woman Representative Njeri Maina has appealed to young lawyers to provide pro bono legal support to the yoth who wre arrested during the nationwide protests on June 25, 2025.

Njeri highlighted that a huge number of youth have been held across different 27 counties where the demonstrations took place. She said,

“Hundreds of young people are in cells across the 27 counties where demos took place. I’m calling on all young lawyers to offer pro bono legal services to secure their release today and provide legal representation for the long haul.”

The protests that were largely led by the youth were met with heavy police prescence. Following the protests human rights activists have raised concern over the detention conditions and access to legal service s to those who were detained. A number of those detained include recent graduates, youth activists and students. Kenyans have since expressed solidarity using hashtags like #ProBonoForChange and #JusticeForTheYouth.
