The National Cohesion and Integration hasmission strongly condemns the recent loss of lives, destruction of property, and rising incidents of violence witnessed during the nationwide demonstrations held on 25th June 2025 and 7th July 2025.
NCIC has called on stakeholders to participate in its ongoing Transgenerational conversations, which they say offer space for discourse, collective reflection and action. They have called on political and civic actors to refrain from exploiting the frustrations of Gen Z for political capital.
Moreover, NCIC has recommended the prosecution of Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over utterances said to have been deemed to be hate speech. The utterances however were not connected to the Gen Z protests.
According to NCIC, unrest being experienced is a loud and painful signal of the growing discontent among Kenyan youth commonly known us Gen Z’s. Many young Kenyans feel excluded, unheard, and increasingly disillusioned. “We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of lives and the injuries sustained by both civilians and law enforcement officers. Our heartfelt condolences go out to the families and communities mourning their loved ones. In a democratic society like Kenya, no grievance-however genuine should ever result in the loss of life or the destruction of livelihoods that citizens have worked so hard to build.” said Kobia
The commision also expressed frustration stems from a combination of factors like high unemployment, economic hardship, lack of trust in institutions, limited opportunities, and a perceived failure of leadership to address their needs and aspirations. “These are not isolated sentiments-they are widespread and valid, and they must be urgently acknowledged and addressed.” he added
