Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has visited students injured in the tragic fire at Utumishi Girls Academy in Gilgil, Nakuru County, as the country continues to mourn the loss of 16 students who died in the incident.
Speaking at St. Joseph’s Mission Hospital, Murkomen reiterated that the government is mourning with the families that have been affected by the terrible dormitory fire which happened on Wednesday night.
“We stand with the families who are grieving their losses and the rest of the school community in sadness, ” the Cabinet Secretary said.
The Cabinet Secretary together with other government officials, visited the hospital and met with fire victims. They consoled the girls and said a prayer for their healing.
Murkomen promised the students and the families involved that there will be accessible psychological support and counselling for them to help them overcome the trauma that has resulted from the tragedy.
“We gave them words of hope and promised them our help not only physically but through counselling as they need time to accept the tragedy, ” he said.
Authorities are still on the scene working to investigate the cause of the devastating fire which resulted in the destruction of a dormitory at a school Apart from the loss of student lives.
Murkomen appealed to the public to stay composed and keep the families in their prayers while the police are doing their work about this matter.
However, the Interior CS issued a warning to anyone responsible for the tragedy that they will not be spared from punishment.
“We are very determined that if it turns out that this fire was deliberately started by someone then person will be brought to justice, ” he added.
Authorities have reaffirmed their pledge to increase the safety standards in schools nationwide to safeguard the lives of learners and avert further similar incidents.
