Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has denied reports that suggest forces or civilians from Somalia are coming into Mandera County, stating that no groups have crossed the border into Kenya to escape the conflict in Jubaland.

While addressing the 36th Jukwaa La Usalama forum in Kakamega County, Murkomen was categorical that the allegations of Somalis infiltrating Mandera were baseless.

He rather charged the opposition leaders, such as the Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, with deliberately stirring up insecurity by using it for their political agendas. “Security is not a political issue but a serious national matter. Leaders must stop leading Kenyans astray for their own benefits,” Murkomen declared.

The Interior CS also lamented the escalating insecurity in the Western Kenya region, citing the rise of gangs and goons, particularly during funerals.

He accused the judiciary of releasing the perpetrators of political violence without the imposition of penalties for lack of accountability, thereby giving a warning that such indulgence is fueling the cycle of lawlessness.

Murkomen on top of that uncovered that Kakamega County is at the lead when it comes with the production and consumption of brewed version of chang’aa in the whole country.

The CS further stated that the illicit brew is not only a source of crime but also a contributor to anti-social behavior.

He invited communities, local leaders, and security personnel to unite in their fight against insecurity and extinguish illicit brewing by committing that national stability cannot be jeopardized by political talk.

The Kakamega conference was the Western Kenya rally of the Jukwaa La Usalama, a forum dialogue where government members, security officers, and local people meet to talk about safety and justice.
