A section of religious leaders in Mumias East, Kakamega County, have vowed not to officiate burial ceremonies where the controversial practice of disco matanga is allowed.

This was revealed by Pastor Livingstone Washali, the chairperson of the Mumias East Council of Churches.According to Washali, they agreed to keep off burials where the practice citing th.e practice is known to condone acts of lawlessness and a rise in teenage pregnancies. He said that they are also collaborating with security agencies to end the practice.

The announcement comes amid growing calls from local leaders and residents to enforce existing regulations against the events, which are commonly held as part of funeral vigils in western Kenya.
